Electric vehicle drivers in New South Wales will soon have access to 549 new kerbside chargers in 130 suburbs. A $2.8 million investment is helping bring these chargers closer to where people live, especially for those without off-street parking, such as apartment dwellers.
The new chargers will make it easier and more convenient for electric vehicle owners to charge their cars. This expansion supports lower household transport costs and helps move the state toward its goal of net zero emissions.
Five companies received grants to install the chargers. These companies will also add $2.2 million in private investment to the project. The companies involved are Charge Post, Connected Kerb, EVX, Plus ES, and EF Asset Management.
The chargers will be placed in 22 local government areas. Some areas will get more chargers, like the City of Parramatta with 70 and Northern Beaches with 66. Others, like Lane Cove and Sutherland Shire, will receive a few chargers. The chargers will be a mix of pole-mounted and pedestal types. They will range from 7 kilowatts to 22 kilowatts in power.
Installation will happen over the next 12 months on kerbsides and in public council car parks. This project focuses on crowded urban areas. Regional areas will see more chargers through other programs aimed at fast and destination charging.
The effort aims to give drivers more confidence to switch to electric vehicles by making charging easy and close to home. Every new charger helps build a cleaner and more affordable transport future for the state.
