Australia’s first First Nations-owned retail energy provider, Yurringa Energy, has officially started operations in Victoria, marking a significant milestone for Indigenous involvement in the energy sector. The company, which was established in 2018, will also provide power for the state’s largest road infrastructure project, the North East Link.
Yurringa Energy has secured the energy supply contract for the North East Link and, in collaboration with Alinta Energy, will supply 100% renewable power for the construction of the project’s tunnels. This move highlights the growing role of Indigenous-owned businesses in the Australian energy market.
In addition to supplying renewable energy, Yurringa Energy is committed to supporting the Indigenous workforce. The company aims to create employment and training opportunities for Indigenous people, particularly in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector.
The establishment of Yurringa Energy reflects a broader push for economic development within First Nations communities, ensuring that Indigenous Australians play a pivotal role in the transition to renewable energy. To learn more, visit yurringaenergy.com.au.
