Australia and Singapore have awarded funding to eight projects aimed at reducing emissions in the maritime sector. The projects are part of a $20 million initiative under the Australia-Singapore Initiative on Low Emissions Technologies (ASLET).
ASLET supports the Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) between Australia and Singapore. The corridor focuses on decarbonising and digitising shipping routes between the two countries. CSIRO and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) deliver the initiative.
The funding call opened in July 2024. It aimed to support projects that use zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission technologies in maritime and port operations. Thirty-two applications were received from universities, research institutes, and industry groups in both countries.
The selected projects cover a range of activities. They include innovations in the supply, transport, storage, and use of hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol. Projects also focus on electrification, safety, and environmental monitoring. The projects are expected to be completed within two years and have attracted co-funding contributions.
For more detail on these projects, see the CSIRO and MPA websites.
