Digital Driver Licences Celebrate One-Year Milestone in Victoria

More than 1.8 million Victorians have adopted the state’s digital driver licence since its launch one year ago, marking a major step forward in digital convenience and secure identification.

To date, approximately 1.5 million full licence holders and 323,000 learner and probationary drivers have downloaded the digital licence via the myVicRoads and Service Victoria apps. This means over one-third of eligible Victorians are now using digital versions of their driver, motorcycle, or heavy vehicle licences.

Since the rollout, an average of nearly 35,000 digital licences have been activated each week.

The technology has been praised for its user-friendly interface and the convenience it provides. While the digital licence is optional, physical cards remain available and valid for all identification and driving purposes.

Digital licences are equipped with advanced security features, including a timed QR code that can be scanned by businesses and authorities to verify authenticity and prevent misuse. The licence also shows when it has been cancelled or suspended and reflects updates to personal details, such as a change of address, in real time.

Victorians can access their digital driver licence by adding it to their smartphone using the Service Victoria or myVicRoads app.

More information can be found on the official VicRoads or Service Victoria websites.
