CSIRO Launches Program to Boost AI and Digital Innovation for SMEs

CSIRO is inviting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to join its Innovate to Grow program. The eight-week online program helps businesses turn early-stage ideas in digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) into actionable research and development projects.

Selected SMEs gain free access to R&D experts, industry mentors, and self-paced learning modules. The program supports businesses in building research plans, identifying funding opportunities, and connecting with the right science and data resources.

Michelle Armistead, Program Manager, said the program has helped more than 650 SMEs since 2020. She said the initiative gives businesses the guidance and connections needed to develop investable projects in areas like AI, robotics, cybersecurity, and digital manufacturing.

Melbourne-based start-up Lurra Systems completed the program in 2023. Founder Luis Elneser said the course helped the company structure its R&D plan and explore new projects with mentorship support. He described the program as well-suited for SMEs seeking to grow and innovate.

The program is open to SMEs working in artificial intelligence, including computer vision, machine learning, large language models, and natural language processing. Other areas include robotics and autonomous systems, quantum computing, cybersecurity, and digital manufacturing.

Applications are now open for Innovate to Grow: Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. The program aims to accelerate innovation and make new technology ideas ready for research and investment.

Applications close on 01 June 2025.
