AI and Satellites Transform Mangrove Conservation

QL Space is using satellite technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to change how we monitor and protect mangroves. Their platform analyses vegetation, identifies at-risk areas, and estimates carbon capture. This helps environmental managers respond quickly to threats and make data-driven decisions.

Mangroves protect coastlines, support biodiversity, and capture carbon. AI interprets satellite images to detect subtle changes in mangrove health. This allows conservation work to be fast and focused.

QL Space improved its research and development strategy through CSIRO’s Innovate to Grow program. The program helps small and medium enterprises refine ideas, access opportunities, and bring solutions to market. Participation helped QL Space strengthen grant applications and business planning.

The company secured the Western Australian Government Innovation Booster Grant. Funding will expand their platform and add new capabilities. QL Space plans to extend its work to precision mining and agriculture. The team is growing with specialists in AI, satellite technology, and data science.

Innovate to Grow combined online learning with mentoring and peer networking. QL Space credits this support for helping them overcome both technical and commercial challenges.

The project shows how AI and satellite data can drive large-scale environmental conservation. It also demonstrates the broader potential of geospatial tools in mining, agriculture, and disaster response.
