A $52 million investment has been announced to support renewable manufacturing projects across NSW. The funding is expected to create more than 100 construction jobs and 67 permanent positions.
The investment is part of the Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, a $480 million program that supports lower emissions, clean technology and advanced manufacturing.
The initiative is supporting more than 1,100 jobs across NSW through 40 different projects. It aims to help businesses develop technologies that support a low-carbon manufacturing industry.
Four projects have received funding:
- A company in Griffith will receive $20 million to convert agricultural organic waste into renewable gas. The gas can be used for heating and electricity generation.
- A project near Moree will receive $9.4 million to expand the production of low-carbon ammonia fertiliser for use on cotton farms. The project aims to support more sustainable farming.
- Another project will receive $778,000 to develop hydrogen refuelling stations for heavy vehicles. The stations are expected to support the development of a low-emission freight corridor between Sydney and southeast Queensland.
- A transformer manufacturer will receive $22 million to expand production of electrical transformers. These transformers help reduce energy loss when electricity is transmitted from solar and wind farms.
The funding is expected to increase manufacturing capacity and support renewable energy infrastructure across several regional areas, including the Southern Highlands, Riverina and the state's northwest.
The projects are designed to strengthen local manufacturing, encourage clean energy development and create new employment opportunities in regional NSW.
